CHAPTER 7

This guy is tenacity embodied!
The Video Tunnel

That huge black wedge shape is the infamous video tunnel. Sorry about the image quality; this was grabbed from some old Hi8 video footage I had. All that surface area was a huge sail in the wind. Super scary. The projectors sat in the black hut at the back. On the far side of the stage, the tunnel was 90’ off the deck, as I recall.

Here’s me with my crazy mullet! I’m ratcheting the tunnel taught. It was made of fabric and stretched to seem solid.

My first-ever real backstage pass! It’s for the biggest tour in history up until that point, not a bad start. I was so fiercely proud to have this pass.

Three amazing shots of the stage… sorry for the low resolution. I think Production Manager David Stallbaumer may have taken these… if it’s someone else just holler if you want credit or for me to take them down. I so wish that I was into photography back then. I have some really bad Hi8 video tapes of the show somewhere.
Ron Wood

Ron Wood and I catching up decades after the tour. He was visiting the Brad Paisley tour, and I looked after him for a bit. My favorite moment came as we were watching the show at the soundboard. He leaned over all sly and whispered: “Hey man, I need a fix, can you hook me up?”
“I didn’t think you did any of that anymore, Ronny,” Was my shocked reply.
“No mate, (he raised his eyebrows mischievously) Stabucks… let’s get me a coffee.”
Ronnie then insisted that I take him to Starbucks. As if no one would notice that a Rolling Stone was hanging out in line. We were discovered almost instantly. Ronnie handled the attention like a gentleman. He’s such a great guy.

Dear friend Bob Otremba, My boss Lee griffin and I during the European leg of the Stones tour. We lost Bob years ago, I miss you pal. Look at my hair!

There’s that hair again. This is me with one of the sound guys at the mixing console (Was it Gary? Sorry, I forgot, I do remember that you’re a great guy!). Syracuse Stadium, I believe. Photo credit either my Dad Ernie or his lady, Dorinda.
